My photography involves a lot of solo hiking, so safety and comfort in the outdoors are fundamental parts of the process. One of my basic rules is that safety gear is the first thing to be packed – camera equipment has to fit in around it. The Australian bush is an inspiring place to explore and photograph but it takes no prisoners. Poor preparation, bad judgement or bad luck can quickly put you into a dire situation. I've posted some tips on preparing for hikes here and here. Below is a list of equipment that accompanies me on my outdoor wanderings.
