Boonoo Boonoo and Bald Rock National Parks

I kicked off the month with a camping trip to a new location to me, Boonoo Boonoo National Park in northern New South Wales. The Boonoo Boonoo River cascades through the National Park before dropping more than 200 metres off the escarpment at the spectacular Boonoo Boonoo Falls. I spent four days scrambling around the rocky riverbanks with my camera and generally just soaking up the wild scenery and brisk mountain air.

From Boonoo Boonoo, I made the short trip to Bald Rock one morning and walked to the top of this awesome dome of granite. As well as taking still images I've been playing around with video recently - I put together a short movie of stills and video about my trip to Bald Rock and posted it on's the link if you want to check out my underwhelming movie-making skills!

There's an article about my trip to Boonoo Boonoo and Bald Rock over in the Articles section of this website. I've included some of my favourite images with camera settings for those who are interested in numbers.

Gibraltar Range and Washpool National Parks

Later in May I headed further down into New South Wales to Gibraltar Range National Park. As usual, I camped at the Mulligan's Hut campground right beside Little Dandahra Creek - the water level was lower than I'd seen it before but all the cascades were still flowing pretty strongly so there were plenty of photo opportunities along the creek. Washpool National Park is only separated from Gibraltar Range NP by the Gwydir Highway, but instead of the big rocky outcrops you see at Gibraltar Range, Washpool is more about woodland and forest - especially tall, lush rainforest. I spent one morning hiking up a dark rainforest trail in Washpool to a series of cascades known as Summit Falls - it turned out to be one of the highlights of my trip because it was a last minute change of mind that saw me heading that way, and because it was just such a great location and environment to photograph.

I plan to write an article about some of the photo locations I visited, but in the meantime here are some images from the trip.
