This month I've had the good fortune to meet and pick up some valuable tips from four of Australia's leading photo-imaging specialists. Early in the month, the Visible Light 2010 travelling roadshow came to Brisbane with it's entourage of expert presenters. I attended the Masterclass Workshop on Friday, where Peter Eastway and Philip Andrews covered topics from colour management and printing, to the business side of landscape photography. I think it's fair to say that what these guys don't know about their subjects isn't worth knowing! The afternoon session was very hands-on, with Peter and Philip taking the time to give some one-on-one tuition to the attendees on photo editing techniques. It's always a pleasure to attend these events and realise that the experts we look to for inspiration are basically just nice blokes who love to take photos.
Later in the month, it was up to Lake Weyba near Noosa Heads for a weekend of learning and inspiration under the able guidance of Nick Rains and Christian Fletcher. Again, it was just a pleasure to meet and chat with these two photographers who have done the hard yards and are now so eager to pass on some of their knowledge to help others. As well as some fairly intensive discussion on the theories and practices behind landscape photography and imaging techniques, there was plenty of time to get out and take a few photos with an evening shoot of a full moon over Lake Weyba, and a dawn session on the rocks at Granite Bay in Noosa National Park. There are several of my best shots from the weekend in the Latest Images gallery.
